Resource Library
Here is a collection of websites and various resources that are useful in generating ideas for sessions, adding to your library, or movies that inspire. Most of my teaching materials are hand-made bespoke for each individual, but I hope these websites will be a good starting place for brainstorming ideas.
Resource and Learning Websites
Autism-Resources - a website that I came across that has many resources free to download.
Boom Learning - an online platform that allows teachers to download free or paid digital activities for students of all ages; great for distance learning and/or telehealth therapy..
Speaking of Speech - a great website with lots of resources and information made by SLPs. They have a section for material exchanges.
Twinkle - a UK based website that is fantastic for resources arranged by age and Year level. Highly recommend, and worth the subscription price.
ABA services worldwide
Autism Speaks - a listing of international autism organizations
ABA4All - Great website for those seeking Learning Assistants and NHS Trusts that offer ABA in the United Kingdom.
ABA4All schools - A list of ABA schools in the UK.
books and media
Autism: The Musical - a fun and engaging movie about a group of autistic kids who decide to write and perform in their own school musical.
Ben X - a Belgian film about an autistic teenager who, as an escape from bullying at school, finds comfort in the digital world of role-playing video games. Film is in Flemish (Dutch) with English subtitles.
Louis Theroux: Extreme Love Autism - a British documentary made by Louis Theroux that explores the highs and lows of families affected by ASD in New Jersey, USA. Read a review from the Telegraph.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime - a fantastic novel by Mark Haddon, tells a tale of a teenage boy with Aspergers’ Syndrome, who, after discovering the murder of their neighbour’s dog, sets off on an adventure to uncover the mystery of its killer. Along the way, he meets many strangers, uncovers a family secret, and embarks on a life-changing adventure that will test him both physically and mentally.
The Reason I Jump - An amazing book told in the voice of a 13 year old, non verbal autistic boy from Japan. He answers some of the most common questions we have about specific behaviours that people with autism exhibit, and why they do the things they do. An easy read, and incredible insightful, I highly recommend this!
